Randall E. “Gene” Matheny, 66, Annapolis, Illinois passed away at 4:10 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Illinois. Born in Robinson, Illinois on September 25, 1946, he was the son of Wayne C. Matheny and Edna M. (Huddleston) Matheny. He served in the U. S. Army during Vietnam from 1966 – 1968. He was employed with Marathon Oil Company, Robinson, Illinois retiring in 1998 to pursue his love of farming full time. He was a member of the E. U. M. Church, Oblong, Illinois; Oblong American Legion Post #219; he was a Founding Board Member of the Ethanol Project; Board Member of the Lincolnland Agri-Energy; ADA Board Member; Coop Board Member; LLC Board Member; Member and Investor of the Jasper Economic Development Inc. which is bringing the Cobblestone Inn and Suites to Newton, Illinois and past member of the Oblong Unit #4 School Board.
On March 20, 1970, he married Jan Rogers, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Tim Matheny and Matthew Matheny; and one sister, Doretha Barnbrook.
Randall was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Allen Matheny and one sister, Loretta Skelton.
It was Randall’s wish to be buried in Bellair Cemetery because of all the work that he, Jim Livingston, Lowell Livingston, Larry Henry and Jack Snider did to beautify the cemetery.
Pastor Jim Williams and Rev. Fred White will officiate the funeral service with burial to follow in Bellair Cemetery, Bellair, Illinois.
